Project Impact

The impact of the project is multiple:

1. Strengthening the community of Una Europa Researchers in the field of Heritage Studies, Urban Studies, Tourism studies. This networking will prepare submissions to European projects (Horizon Europe and JPICH) and will allow preparing the basis for future external funding.

2. Stemming from the Cultural Heritage topic, develop a Una Europa research community on Urban studies. This could be a future particularly important transversal theme for Una Europa researches.

3. Involve students in each university and lay the groundwork for future student activities (such as a UNA-Ten Hackathon).

4. Strengthen the relationship between Una Europa Universities and urban, metropolitan and regional authorities (in the fields of urban planning, heritage and culture). The Manifesto/position paper aims also at positioning Una Europa as an important player for urban and heritage issues in their respective urban/metropolitan areas. This will also have implications in terms of securing participation of the stakeholders in future external funding applications.

5. Explore opportunities for the generation and reconception of alternative models for tourism in COVID times, allowing a redistribution of tourist tracks and alleviating overtouristified areas.

6. Formulate operational guidelines for heritage activity in urban fringes, in particular with relation to the COVID situation, based on good practices, in particular proximity cultural tourism.

7. The project’s relationship with the SDGs is important, in particular SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities and also SDG 10 (reduced inequalities).
